BEWARE OF RENTAL SCAMS
Beware of criminals who are taking advantage of unsuspecting renters and taking their hard earned money. If you are looking for a rental home to live in, be careful responding to ads for rent. There are people preying on the rental community and taking their security deposit and first-month rent. These scammers are posting fake rental ads for properties and getting renters to sign a lease and give up their deposit money. Some of these properties are legitimately listed for rent by a licensed Realtor but the scammers are posting fake ads.
This happened to a property I owned and had listed for sale. Thankfully, the person who was planning on meeting the scammer to give her funds to move in decided to do a little research before meeting him. She did a search for the address on Google and found my name. She called and told me her story and I assured her that I was not aware of anyone signing a lease. In fact, I told her the property was for sale and not for rent. Unfortunately, I called the police but there was nothing they could do!
